Description

The 1999 Plymouth Prowler was already Chrysler's wild card — a factory-built hot rod that looked more like it escaped from a custom shop than a dealership lot. But this one? This one turns the dial past ten and doesn't bother looking back. Cloaked in sinister black paint, its presence is sharpened by a custom flame chrome grille, a flashy snarl that still respects its roots by keeping the factory grille tucked away. The front bumpers? Gone. Shaved clean, leaving the nose aggressive and bare — a modern outlaw's face. Chrome Foose wheels anchor the stance, rolling art pieces that scream power while catching every flicker of light on the street.

Pop the hood and it gets even nastier. The Prowler's V6 may not have been born to dominate dyno charts, but with a full chrome dress-up kit that lights up blood-red, the motor looks like it belongs in a sci-fi dragster. At night, it's a glowing engine bay inferno, daring anyone nearby to step closer. It doesn't just show off the machinery — it weaponizes it, turning the heart of the car into pure spectacle.

But the Prowler's soul isn't just skin deep — it's in the engineering. Built by hand at Chrysler's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, this wasn't some mass-produced experiment. Every Prowler carried the fingerprints of skilled builders. The suspension was where Chrysler proved they weren't just making a retro toy; they were flexing real innovation. The front end was Formula 1-inspired, rocking a double-wishbone design with inboard coil-over shocks mounted horizontally, actuated by pushrods. It was clever, radical, and gave the Prowler that impossibly low hood line, the kind that makes other cars look tall and clumsy.

Out back, the independent multi-link suspension kept the car planted, with coil-overs and stabilizer bars ensuring stability when the streets turned rough. The hardware itself was forged aluminum, sculpted with semi-solid metal (SSM) technology to keep it light and strong. The ride was firm — brutally so — made harsher by the rock-solid sidewalls of the run-flat tires. This car didn't apologize for it, either. It was stiff, raw, and uncompromising. Only in 2000 did Chrysler ease up, softening springs and recalibrating shocks. But the '99? It stayed hard-edged, built for drivers who wanted to feel every ripple in the asphalt.
